Domaine Bachey-Legros, Santenay 1er Cru 'Clos Rousseau', 2023
AOC Santenay Premier Cru, Bourgogne
100% Pinot Noir
13.5%
Their top red, Bachey-Legros' Clos Rousseau comes from 2 plots of vines located in 'Grand Clos Rousseau' (planted in 1980) and 'Petit Clos Rousseau' (planted in 1955). Each plot has their own distinct personality, on Petit Clos the Pinot grows on limestone bedrock lending minerality and fine, red fruits. Grand Clos adds richness and power thanks to the deep clay-marl soils.
Hand harvested, the pinot undergoes cold pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days. After 10 days of post-fermentation maceration the wine goes into barrel on the fine lees for 12 months, followed by 2 further months in tank. 30% new oak. The two plots are vinified separately before blending.
-----
Legros Brothers Samuel and Lénaïc are the 6th generation of the family to run the domaine, having taken over from their mother, Christiane.
Based in Santenay, they have an enviable collection of old vines across their holdings. The brothers are rightly obsessed with the upkeep and care of these vines and aim to let them live long lives as naturally as possible.
